In Too Deep (The Blackhawk Boys Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 1,064 ratings

New York Times bestselling author Lexi Ryan brings readers a sexy NFL player who's pulled out all the stops for one more chance with the love of his life.

I have four months to make my wife fall in love with me or let her go forever.

I loved Bailey Green long before she watched her loser ex take his last breaths. I held her while they lowered his coffin into the ground, stilled her shaking hands when the nightmares would tear her from sleep. I waited for her through her grief. But while she was always willing to let me in her bed, she refused to let me in the one place I longed to be—her heart.

Tired of playing second string to a dead man, I let her go. I moved to Florida to begin my NFL career and tried to pretend my perfect life didn’t leave me empty. I’d almost given up. Until one drunken night in Vegas, we stumbled down the aisle and said, “I do.”

In exchange for the divorce she wants so badly, she’s agreed to remain my wife until the end of the year. She has no idea the favors I’ve called in or the lies I’ve told to get her here, but if I succeed, none of that matters.

My secrets always seemed justified, but Bailey has her own—secrets that explain why she always pushed me away, secrets that make me wonder if I should have let her. Now we’re in too deep and I might lose the only girl I’ve ever loved and the best friend I’ve ever had.

In Too Deep is a sexy and emotional novel intended for mature readers. It’s the fifth book in the world of the Blackhawk Boys, but can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Football. Secrets. Lies. Passion. These boys don’t play fair. Which Blackhawk Boy will steal your heart?

Book 1 - SPINNING OUT (Arrow’s story)
Book 2 - RUSHING IN (Christopher’s story)
Book 3 - GOING UNDER (Sebastian’s story)

This has been a fabulous series with each story having its own complicated relationship. Let's face it neither of them have had it easy. It all started with Arrows story and it's ended with Mason's... it's been an emotional journey to say the least.
Bailey has always been a cause for concern throughout this series especially for Mason. We knew how Mason feels about her that's been pretty obvious but why wont she commit to him, it's been four years and he's still hoping.
There has been a lot and still is a lot going on in Bailey's life, it's a constant struggle and while she puts a smile on her face and pretends everything is ok... it's anything but. It doesn't help that everyone is settling down and blissfully happy with no money worries... she can only wish.
Bailey is carrying a lot of secrets and guilt but she has her reasons, Mia knows a little but not everything, Mason wants to know everything but knows not to push.
In Too Deep feels a much bigger read than it's 271 pages, it's an anxious read and very sad in parts simply because of Bailey's situation
Why is it that Parents need to meddle, in this case it is Mason's father Christian, he is a nasty piece of work and caused problems for Mason and Bailey but Mason had know idea that his father has been paying Bailey visits... Bailey has know idea that Mason paid Nic a visit.
There's also the concern over Bailey and her sister Sarah's relationship, it seems very strained and then there's Faith. Alarm bells soon began to ring.
Through it all Mason never gave up even with the likes of Mason's father Christian and Lindy trying to come between them, the only thing that might... is the secrets and lies which we now know Mason has too but they both have their reasons.
Lexi Ryan has done a fabulous job with this story, it keeps you absolutely riveted as you deal with everything that is Mason and Bailey. Just like their relationship it's been a long time coming but it was so worth it.!
Can't wait for what Lexi Ryan releases next..!!

In Too Deep is the 5th book in The Blackhawk Boys series. This book can be read as a standalone novel or as part of the series but be warned, it is a real page turner!!

For those who have been reading the series, this is the one we’ve all been waiting for – Mason and Bailey’s story.

Bailey and Mason are friends with an on/off physical relationship. Mason has been in love with Bailey since college. Bailey cares deeply for Mason but is unable to move on from her first love, Nic Mendez, a local drug dealer who was killed in a car accident. Mason has always been there for Bailey. He has patiently waited for her to want more than just friendship and recently put a ban on their physical relationship in an attempt to commit her into a permanent relationship with him.

They are two people from completely different backgrounds. Bailey is a strong, independent woman who has a sensitive side to her feisty character. She was brought up in a trailer park, stripped to pay for her college education and doesn’t believe that she is good enough for Mason. Mason is from a wealthy family who do not approve of Bailey. He is a successful NFL player and wealthy in his own right. He is a kind, caring character and a loyal friend.

After one drunken night in Vegas, Mason and Bailey wake up married! Sober Bailey wants a divorce, but Mason sees this as his opportunity to win Bailey’s heart for good. Bailey is offered the chance to help Mason but in doing so she has to remain married to Mason for four months. Bailey agrees to help her friend, but both of them have secrets that threaten to destroy their relationship.

This is Bailey and Mason’s story – An emotional rollercoaster, full of twists and turns in the style that Lexi Ryan always does so well. A brilliant read and lovely conclusion to a much loved series - Highly recommend!!

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

    3.5 Stars

This is the fifth instalment in the Blackhawk Boys Series but only the third book Ive read. They can be read as standalone story but I felt like I benefited from reading the previous books as it gives us insight into not only the other characters in this story but the main ones also.

I was excited to get Mason's story but Ive always been a bit dubious about Baileys side of things. In the previous books we have read about the push and pull between these two characters and Mason's vow not to touch Bailey again. Unfortunately we can't always do what are heads are telling us and sometimes our hearts just take over which is the case for Mason!

Bailey was never my favourite person in the previous books, Ive always struggled to connect with her and for most of this book I found her to be a real b!tch if I'm being honest. I get the fact that she hasn't had things easy and has struggled with the things life has thrown at her and also her decisions but she messed with Mason's feelings a little too often for me. Don't get me wrong though there were times my heart broke for her and I admired her for her grit and determination but I just couldn't shake off her b!tchiness from the past.

Mason has always been one of the guys Ive liked the most, he just had something that drew me to his character. Watching him battle against Bailey's demons and try to win the heart of the girl he loves was tough at times, I was screaming at my kindle at times for him to forget about her and move on but like I said above The heart wants what the heart wants! I really did love Mason though, he was such a sweet, caring, attentive and incredibly hot guy!

I'm not a big fan of books that hop back and forth between past and present. There have been a very select number of books that I've actually really enjoyed that have done this. It really does put me off a little.

Overall this wasn't my favourite book of the series and that was for the simple fact that I found it so hard to connect to Bailey. It's definitely worth the read though and I was glad they got their HEA!

5.0 out of 5 stars sexy and delicious and infuriating and angsty and emotional and so romantic
Reviewed in the United States on 15 September 2017
"I thought I could handle four months as Mason’s wife, but four days in, and he’s already too close to my secrets."

Mason and Bailey have arguably the most complicated, messy dynamic of this entire series. The Blackhawk Boys are full of secrets and brokenness and addiction and sin, and each of their roads to happily ever after have been paved in heartache and tragedy. At first, In Too Deep felt a bit lighter to me as compared to previous standalones in this series. Bailey and Mason waking up after their hasty, drunken Vegas wedding felt, at first, delicious and sexy and fun. But as their history is revealed, as their truths are bared and their true feelings come to light, it became clear that In Too Deep would fall right in line with every other book in this series. In Too Deep is heavy with emotion and angst and it gripped me just as completely as the rest of Lexi Ryan's series did.

As heavy as this story is, it's also deliciously romantic and beautifully sweet. Mason has his own secrets but his devotion to Bailey has never been one of them. He's one of the good guys and it's impossible not to love him. Bailey is so headstrong, so stubborn, so defiant, so determined. Her entire young adult life has been built on secrets and lies and the struggle to get by. These characters have spent years playing a painfully messy game of push and pull, of give and take and after their accidental wedding becomes a marriage of convenience, every secret and lie they've ever had between them comes full circle and threatens everything they allow themselves to hope for.

“I don’t want your friendship unless it comes with your body. And I don’t want your body unless it comes with your heart .”

I love this book just as I've loved every book before it. The Blackhawk Boys is one of my absolute FAVORITE series and each book is just as fantastic as the last. This series is so angsty, so messy, so intricately woven together, I can not get enough of it. Mason's story is one I've longed for since these characters were first introduced in their friends' books and finally getting their complete story was as satisfying as I hoped it would be. Longing and heartache converge with sensuality and romance to make for a richly layered plot in this unputdownable page turner and I never wanted it to end. As with every book in this series, I struggled between devouring it eagerly and savoring it slowly just so it would last. I loved everything about it. The romance, the drama, MASON, the shocking secrets, the heart-wrenching truths, football, MASON, this colorful ensemble of characters, the steamy scenes, the raw emotion on every page, MASON, Lexi Ryan's stunning writing style, the way the past and present converge and collide, the drama and the unbelievably romantic one liners I highlighted throughout this book... I could go on and on about all of the things I loved about this book. It's sexy and delicious and infuriating and angsty and emotional and so romantic... I just loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many things I enjoyed about this series
Reviewed in the United States on 3 April 2022
Obviously clearly I'm a sucker for happy endings. This is probably the smartest series she's written because Mason and Baileys story is sprinkled into the other 4 books so of course you have to read them all! That was a genius idea! So by the time everyone else has gotten their happy ending you're just wondering what is the conflict that's keeping these two apart when weve been reading for 4 books now how much they love each other. I enjoyed every story in this series Arrow and Mia story being my favorite. She started on a high note with that one and the others are much more tame in comparison (sebastian and Alex a close 2nd)... but I read the whole series because I was invested. Lexi ryan knows how to make characters you love and characters you hate (ahem Olivia... lol). Overall really great series but I'd love a reunion book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally we get Bailey and Mason's story!

    4.5 Stars!
The conclusion of the Blackhawk Boys Series was bittersweet for me. I have fallen in love with all of these characters, and knowing we finally were going to get Mason and Bailey's story brought me joy, but at the same time sadness, knowing it was going to be the end of the series.

If you've followed this series, you know Bailey and Mason have an interesting past. They've always had a relationship, but Bailey keeps him at a distance, and Mason has always wanted more from her. He thinks it's because she's still in love with her deceased ex Nic, but there's a lot more to the story, that we find out in In Too Deep.

When this story begins we see Bailey and Mason waking up in Vegas hung over and married. Mason is thrilled, and Bailey is not too happy. They agree to keep things quiet so their friends can enjoy their wedding, but when Mason begins to ignore Bailey's calls for a divorce, and she has to go visit him in Florida he asks her for a favor to stay married to him for four months to help him, and he'll help her. Nothing could go wrong right? I loved how Mason knew he could either get the girl of his dreams after the four months were over, or end up breaking his heart all over again, and Bailey was breaking her heart all over again by spending more time with Mason. Watching the two of these characters dance around their feelings and bicker back and forth in the beginning of this book was amusing and heartbreaking all the same. We know they both have secrets, but you don't know exactly what the secrets are that are keeping them apart. You just want them together.

As the story goes on and you get to see more of why Bailey has pushed Mason away, my heart broke for her. I understood her reasoning for the things she did, but I wish she would have come out and spoke to Mason about it instead of keeping it a secret for so long, but as we find out there's even more to the reasoning than what meets the eye. There are so many secrets between these two, and it really makes you as the reader question if their love can really survive it all, especially with so many people trying to keep them apart.

I loved watching how supportive the core group of friends were in this book towards both Bailey and Mason, and when things were going bad, how they rallied around both of them to make sure things worked out for them. Emma and Mia were perfect friends for Bailey as they always were, and made me jealous of the friendships they had. Keegan was protective of Bailey but also an amazing friend like he always had been to Mason, and a new addition of Owen brought laughter and fun to this book. There were new characters introduced that I was not fond of, but they were needed to add to the story, and trust me, you will hate them all the same (Lindy....).

This was a beautiful ending to the series that I really didn't want to end. I hope one day Lexi Ryan will give us a book with all of the characters showing us how they all ended up since each book was a stand alone with a couple, I would love to see them all together again since they've all gone their separate ways. Mason and Bailey's story truly was a perfect ending for them, since we've seen them in each book, but never really knew what was going on with them. If you haven't read The Blackhawk Boys Series yet, you don't need to, to read In Too Deep, but I do recommend reading this entire series, as it is one of my favorites! In Too Deep is an amazing book of love, friendship, angst, and forgiveness. Definitely go pick up your copy today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lexi Ryan delivered more than a romance, she brought this series full circle.
Reviewed in the United States on 17 September 2017
In Too Deep by Lexi Ryan is the fifth and possibly final book in the Black Hawk Boys series.  This spectacular new adult sports romance series has held readers captive from the beginning.  In Too Deep brings the series full circle and gives the readers another perspective on the fatal accident that brought this series and characters to life.

    ***

Bailey Green and Mason Dahl met their freshman year of college.  They started out as a hookup that turned into a friends with benefits until Mason wanted more.  Bailey refused to get into a real relationship with Mason.  She was still grieving Nick's death and struggling   to keep up with her college courses and tuition.  She was working as a stripper to make ends meet.  For four years she held Mason at bay.  They settled on a friendship only type relationship although they both still desired one another.  After college graduation the gang is moving on to their perspective careers.  Mason has become an NFL player for the Gators.  Bailey is stuck in Black Hawk Valley, still tending bar and playing around with her photography.  A weekend in Vegas celebrating their friends engagement is a life changing event for both of them.  A drunken night turns into a legal marriage.  Bailey wants out and Mason is determined to make their marriage work.

    ***
Their hasty, secret marriage could ruin Mason's career on the Gators unless they come clean with the public.  Bailey's past could ruin Mason's career as well.  Bailey's desperate to break all ties before she ruins Mason's life.  Mason is desperate to stay married until he can get his position on the team secured or at least make him a tradable player.

    ***

They both love each other but the past is holding them both back in very different ways.  For Mason it's knowledge that he is competing against a dead man.  For Bailey, it's her past  toxic relationship with Nick that could ruin Mason's life.  They have reached the point of either letting go of each other or letting the past destroy them both.  It doesn't matter how much they really do love each other, their past is dictating their future.  They both have secrets that could destroy each other and their already troubled relationship.

    ***

Lexi Ryan delivered more than a romance, she brought this series full circle.  There were so many things that were left unexplained about Nick's presence in Bailey's life and how his death changed her future.  The fatal accident is where it all started and ended up being the very thing that validated this entire series.  I fell hopelessly in love with Mason and admired his determination.  My heart broke for Bailey but I also respected her decisions.

    ***

I'm sad to say goodbye to all of these dynamic characters in the Black Hawk Boys series. I am hoping that Lexi Ryan will continue with the new characters introduced on the NFL team.
