Her lips, the way she feels, how she moves against me. Her voice when she laughs, her eyes when she cries. Her soul connected to mine, for better or for worse, for all eternity.

I don't remember.

A blank face. Unrecognizable. The darkness and impenetrable fog, day after day after day. Who am I? And for that matter, who is she?

I can't remember.

Two sides to the same coin – one wants to remember, and the other wants to stay forgotten. Which side will win? Can he trust his heart to bring him back to her? Or will she stay lost in the fog forever?

I might never remember.

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

I also write contemporary romance under the name Penny Sixsmith

I'm content.

Muscle Memory was exactly what my book-soul needed.

Also, I must say that Ms Fantome is truly gifted. From romantic comedy to suspense to dark erotica....she writes all sub-genres with heart, soul, and a hefty dose of talent.

If there's one advice I'd give those that are yet to read this book, it would be to not give up on it.

Admittedly the main themes are heavy and difficult to navigate but eventually it all comes together beautifully.

Amnesia, drug use, love triangle....all done without a contrivance in sight. This reader appreciates an author who doesn't pander. So, thank you Stylo!

Highly recommend.

MUSCLE MEMORY: is a standalone contemporary romance novel by Sylo Fantome.

Imagine waking up with no memory, this is what happened to John Doe case number 438643 that’s who we know him by, a man with no name, no recollection of how he turned up at the hospital, or anything of his past life, a blank slate, he remembers nothing!!

Does he have any family? Is anyone missing him? Why has noone come forward?

All he knows is what the hospital staff have told him since he arrived. A fractured skull and a broken humerus. He was unconscious for two whole weeks. It is indicated he may have been a drug addict going by the needle mark on his arm, a homeless man going by the clothes and the state he arrived in, but is any of that true?

His future is hanging in the balance, without any identification on him, where does he go from here?

This does flit from the Present to the Past as we see the events leading up to his demise he’s not so privy to those times though. In his past we see him meet a beautiful female, he already knows that he wants to make her his, build a future together, they meander from sober to intoxicated, from party to party chasing the high that only drugs gives them. Nothing can break their bond, both happy in their bubble.

Like a puzzle piece with missing pieces that we had to connect to make John Doe whole, his past and his newly made up future collide when he comes face to face with a female that he's drawn to but can't remember, we know who she is, we know what they mean't to each other, but will he ever find his way back to her?

later we learn all there is to know about John Doe, we learn where he came from, his name, his age, we learn everything. But once he learns the truth will he change back to the man he was or is he happier with the man he's become.

I loved the beginning of this, the feels come at you as soon as you start it, then it kind of lost me in the middle and slowed down, but picked up again where like a race car driver I was speeding through the pages racing to the finish line and fell in love again. There is no doubt that this author can write, her use of words seemed to flow effortlessly, a unique drug induced gripping story.

I read the blurb and I read reviews.
I knew there would be a love-triangle, but I wasn’t aware of cheating…

Love-triangle is not a reason for my low rating, though it was painful to read detailed love/sex-scenes H with OW/his new gf and only a couple pages further detailed scenes with his “true love”/the h.

I didn’t particularly like chapters “before”. Drug addiction is not sexy and not romantic. I even asked myself if it was love indeed or an illusion in the fog of drugs.

I fully agree with H’s mother: the accident was the best what happened to him. He gave up drugs (though I’m not sure this side of the story was plausible), he got a new chance in life.

His new gf and their relationship was excessively rushed, IMO.
I wanted to like OW/Kitty. It’s a shame they bashed (IMO) her character toward the end.

I missed the fireworks of feelings, when the h came back in his life. I admired her strength at the beginning, when she didn’t want to ruin H’s new life; but it didn’t seem real to me.

I asked myself throughout the book what these 2 women saw in this hero?..
He wasn’t someone special; he wasn’t a bad guy, no; but he definitely lacked strength and personality. IMO.

And then they irrecoverable ruined the book to me – H had sex with the h being still in relationship with OW.
Give or take, it was CHEATING!
He said it himself – he CHEATED on his gf.
And the h was clearly aware of it.

In my world, no epic love (though I didn’t find any in this story), no amnesia etc. could justify the CHEATING.

I wasn’t even mad, I just stopped caring.

I rolled my eyes reading the sloppy unreasonable celebration of apologies: why would a woman who was cheated on ask for forgiveness? They sealed the deal with Kitty after she begged the hero to take her back after he cheated on her -> WTH???

And the story with him writing a book about his amnesia (within a couple of months) and becoming the offer to make a movie?..
Apparently he was the only dude to wake up with amnesia in New York City… Like ever...

NOT safe.

The word condom wasn’t mentioned once. NOT once!
It means he slept with h and with OW bare.(?)

It’s me and my opinion.
But if you are looking for a book with unique plot, you clicked the right one here.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Jon Doherty woke up in a hospital completely unaware of who he was and how he got there. With no identity and memory of his past, his future hung in a balance. But just as he started to rebuild his life, the past came crashing in sending him back into the unknown.

I love books that I could put myself into and made me think what I would do/feel if it happened to me. This book is one of them.

It was like he'd been eating ice cream all his life, and then someone handed him fat free frozen yogurt and claimed it was just as good. No it fucking wasn't – it wasn't even close.

Jon got himself into a tough spot. Not knowing who he was understandably made him confused, angry and sad.

"He was never afraid of anything, and all I see when I look at you is a scared little boy. I hate you! You killed him, and I hate you!”

I love how the story went back and forth between past and present, gradually giving the readers insight who he was before and who he was becoming now. It was hard seeing someone being self destructive.

“Can I start calling you Mom?”he asked.
She made a choking sound. “God, no! Jesus, Jon, I'm probably only ten years older than you, at most!”she snapped.

All the other characters were easily relatable and I could feel each of their dilemmas in dealing with Jon's situation. My favorite is his case worker. They had a special connection and she kept him grounded.

Muscle Memory follows the journey of a man as he rediscovers himself while being led on a path to his true love. It would appeal to readers looking for an evocative romance.

I swear, Stylo Fantôme must sit at her computer thinking up ways to mess with our minds, emotions and souls. This story quite literally had me messed up!

Imagine falling in love.
I mean that all-encompassing, all-consuming, can’t-live-without-out-you kind of love with someone.
Where there is no beginning or end of you.
Where your breath is their oxygen.
You can’t envision or dream up a life without your person.
That’s what Delaney and Jayson shared.
Now imagine that your other half just disappears without a trace.
And then one day, you see your other half but they don’t remember who you are.
Heart freaking breaking!!

In true Fantôme-style, this story was full of angst and full of feels. It moved from past to present fluidly and gave a well-developed picture of who these people were as a couple. The emotional turmoil was effectively splattered upon the pages. It was felt no matter where I went in this story. I think this showed an intriguing look into amnesia. Jayson’s plight was not one to envy and his journey to recover his memories was an ever-increasing struggle. I liked how his support network (Sloany) was worked in and given their own chance in the spotlight. I enjoyed the way that this book mainly explored Jon’s new life and how he tried to navigate it the best way he could and how he tried to embrace it. And I think the author took a realistic outlook on this and didn’t make it too easy for her character to grow.

I found myself constantly cheering Del on, but I really wanted her to get well and truly angry at the cruel twist of fate. At the people who were hurting her and continued to hurt her, albeit unintentionally. I wanted her to rage! I’m not sure, if I were caught in the same predicament, if I could be as genteel, graceful and optimistic as she was. No, actually, I’m sure I would be putting a beat down on someone or something. I wouldn’t be able to hold it in. I’d try to grin and bear it, but eventually the explosion would be felt all around. I for damn sure wouldn’t be okay watching my love with someone else. And Jayson needed to be put in his freaking place.

Okay, so I didn’t give this five stars for two reasons:
➜ I could have really done without the intimate scenes between Jon and Kitty. I mean I really didn’t need them. I get how they may have been necessary to tell the story from all points of view, but it further distanced me from these characters and I ended up lacking any sympathy for them. I hated Kitty and had a pretty low tolerance of Jon.
➜ I wanted more of an HEA for Jayson and Delaney. They finally reconnect, and don’t get me wrong it was beautiful, but I wanted something more. I’m not sure what I was really looking for, but I wanted him to make up for all the pain he caused her. I understand he has suffered. I really and truly get that. But I needed him to GROVEL!!

In short, this was a beautiful story of true love. Of friendships formed in the strangest of circumstances. Of the true meaning of friendship, such as wanting your friend’s happiness above all else. Of love lost and then found. Of refusing to give up in the face of certain defeat. Of how powerful that elusive emotion known as love really is. The mind may forget, but the body and soul will never ever.

This author. This book. These character. This title. This story is a testament of what it truly means to feel. To get completely lost and swept away in an utterly raw and visceral story of life, emptiness, and love. A literary masterpiece where you as a reader are asked to go along a journey of a man’s quest in filling the blank spaces as he discovers or tries to remember who he was.

2c9f8c7c4e90b8e19c95d044bcbaf4 If she couldn't be the love of his life anymore, she would help him love life. She would make him smile and laugh, she would encourage him and share with him.”

A thousand thoughts. A vast oceans of feelings. A million memories. And in an instant, what if it is gone? Everything that you have known wiped away. A clean slate. Is starting anew, a second chance at life? Or is just forgetting and not knowing, an easy way out of erasing your past mistakes? In Stylo Fantome’s newest standalone, Muscle Memory, she has readers asking the same thing. Is knowing better than not knowing? And what if, you are stuck in the middle? At a crossroad where your new relationship collides with your old love? Are those memories worth remembering if someone gets hurt along the way? Or is it better this way not knowing?

#MuscleMemory (1)

Alone in a hospital. No recollection of who you are. Just another John Doe as the nurses and doctors refers to you. This is how “John Doe” wakes up after several weeks in the hospital. No memory of who he is and how he ended up injured. The only thing he knows is how they found him fallen in the subway tracks severely hurt and high as a kite. And so this “John Doe” who rather be called“Jon Doherty” now finds himself helpless and alone.

2c9f8c7c4e90b8e19c95d044bcbaf4 I don't know her, but she's in my blood and in my bones and in my body. I wake up reaching for her, but can't remember her ever being there. I turn around to look for her, then realize she was never with me. She's my ghost, she haunts me. I don't remember her, but I know her.”

Luckily for Jon, a social worker was able to help him out and get him on his feet. Since he has no proper ID or recollection of his Social Security Number, Jon can’t get a job and so he ends up in a halfway house where he is forced to do volunteer work in order to earn his food and housing. It is there at his volunteer job that he meets Katherine, who likes to be called Kitty. Kitty comes from an affluent family. She is rich, beautiful, kind, and very much attracted to Jon. Soon they begin to form a friendship that turns into a relationship.

#MuscleMemory (2)

While Kitty makes Jon happy, something else is missing. His memories. Vague pieces of his past would sporadically come up but the important parts are still blank that is until he runs into a stranger but she doesn’t feel like a stranger.

Delany is shocked when she discover Jayson is not dead but alive. The love of her life is there standing in front of her but doesn’t know who she is. She searched all over Brooklyn for Jayson but no one with that name came forward. The only thing she regrets was that she never thought to search for John Doe.

2c9f8c7c4e90b8e19c95d044bcbaf4 Because that's what real love did – in all things, it strove for the complete and utter happiness of its counterpart. It wasn't jealousy or anger or malice. It was happiness. So she would work on helping Jon find true happiness. And then, maybe, she could think what it at all meant for her.”

Delany and Jayson were young, stupid, and reckless. They partied too much. Got addicted to drugs and alcohol. That was all in the past and now Delany is clean and sober. And Jayson is now Jon Doherty. A new man with a new girlfriend.

#MuscleMemory

Muscle Memory is a deep exploration of what it means to love, find happiness, to sacrifice, to forgive, and to move on. It is a daily reminder of what it means to be human. To be bare. To be naked. To be vulnerable. To have your feelings exposed. To be raw. The story of Jon/Jay, Delany, and Kitty is a heartbreaking, poignant, and consuming story of love and memories. Jon’s life is intertwined with Kitty and Delany. Two women who have helped and shaped him. Two women who cares for him. Two woman but only one man. One man whose memories are just pieces of fragments of his past but can feel in the depth of his soul, he is connected to one woman. “Because when true love finds its counterpart, it always recognizes it. It's all in the muscle memory.”

Stylo Fantome did an amazing job with this book. She practically took her readers down the proverbial rabbit hole where we were bombarded with an array symphony of raw emotions. Your heart just stopped because you can feel the anguish, torment, confusion, and pain not just for Jon but as well as for Delany and Kitty. I absolutely love this book for it’s powerful message of friendship, new beginning, and love. The writing packed a punched and these characters were the beating heart of this book as it gave this story life and meaning. So if you are looking for a book that reminds us the testament of love and sacrifices then I highly recommend you to read this book. And just remember some memories don’t fade but are forever etched in your heart and mind. And those memories can lead you back. Home. Just like how Jon/Jay found his way back with the help of muscle memory.

2c9f8c7c4e90b8e19c95d044bcbaf4 This is what it feels like to be whole again. ”

Can you imagine having the type of love that makes your whole body come alive by just being in the presence of that person and then one day you wake up and you don’t know who you are? No memory of a past life that was filled with hardships and struggle, but one of the best loves anyone could ever hope for. Your reason for existing is only for that person, and your heart beating as one, is as naturally as breathing. So with a love like that, can you imagine not having it anymore?

“We’re two parts of a whole, always making up for the other one. We couldn’t survive without each other.

Waking up in a hospital with no memory of who you are or what your name is a pretty scary feeling and for Jon Doherty, he’s being acquainted with that exact type of emotion right now. But that’s nothing compared to being told how he was found and what his past lifestyle was. No matter who you are, I think everyone deserves to have a second chance at making their lives the best to their ability and luckily for Jon, he’s gotten the do over of a lifetime.

This story was utterly captivating and heart breaking at times. When I read the first chapter I thought to myself: there’s no way this is going to be an easy read. And you know what? I was right. The journey that Jon took was emotionally exhausting and thrilling at the same time. I cheered his accomplishments no matter how little it was, I felt his sorrow and that constant ache in his chest of knowing that there was something missing, and I shared his frustrations when he was just trying to find those pieces that knew was missing.

“Her heart was breaking for a man that didn’t exist anymore. For a love that should’ve lasted forever.

This wasn’t an easy story, and this was never a feel good romance. It will hurt at times. Some characters will frustrate the hell out of you and make you wish that you could crawl inside of the pages just to shake the heck out of them. I’ve been in that moment with them to the point where I was pleading in my own head for them to make a decision and to stop going on and on about not being good enough so yes, the frustration was VERY real.

The one thing that’s going to take you by surprise and knock you off your feet is how much you’re going to fall for Jon and his other half. From the past flashbacks to the present, the love was still there and the bond was even more unbreakable even if Jon didn’t know it yet. I loved seeing all of those emotions when they were in each other’s presence and neither time or distance changed that. Be prepared to go on a soul shaking, heartwrenching, one of a kind love story that makes you believe in the best type of second chances.

If you’re looking for something different Then “Muscle Memory” is the story for you.

How can I i even start to make sense or describe this story .
The blurb didnt say much , so i just went in blind. The Best decision ever ! Cause i was surprised and elated then heartbroken, then hopeful and then blissed at all the turns this story meanders through.
I'm just numb from crying so hard. My heart is aching like a pulled muscle . It's full of all the feels in CAPS, they crawl all over your body and penetrate the soul. The heart trembles with emotions and when it runneth over, they will ultimately flow through your eyes. Be prepared to fly sky high , then shatter to the ground and then try to make sense of it all. I'm just so overwhelmed and so happy that I got to read this book early.
Next time I go to NYC I will be inadvertently scanning the crowds near Time Square, to maybe catch a glimpse of my favouritest couple!

description

“Muscle memory, - That you could feel in your skin and your bones and your muscles ,even when your brain couldn't.”

Heart being the strongest muscle in your body, it seals the emotions in its tight fist. You may be apart from the person you love, you may forget what they said, you may sometimes forget the faces , but you never forget how they made you feel. And that is the foundation of this amazing story . Jayson Fairbanks and Delaney Carter are in love. Stupid, head over heels, too absorbed into each other to notice their penury, dismal surroundings and their sorry state of addiction.....in Love

We had nothing. Nothing at all, barely two pennies to rub together, but we were happy. That's true love.
Sensuality, aggression, pleasure, passion, dirty, raw, naughty, nasty, love.

description

Del is a Ray of sunshine breaking apart their dark shadowed life. Beautiful, full of Love and Joie De vivre

she had an exceptionally positive outlook on life. A spirit that was almost impossible to crush. Whenever anything bad happened, she could almost always find a silver lining. Find a way around it or through it, or a way to laugh at it and learn from it.

Pint size firebomb, she laughs as hard as she fights , or throws a tantrum. They're infested with smooches, kisses , soul shattering sex and lust dipped Love . World is rosy , they're high on Love , then joint, then speed. They Fly so high................................................then Crash so bad, it kills them, their love, their life, their world, their existence.
I won't give away anything else. Just that they cease to exist as Jayson and Delaney.
End of!

Stylo wrote neighbours and I became her fan. With MM I became her ardent , utmost, loyal admirer.
She spliced open my chest and stabbed my heart with all her words. I sobbed when I started the book, tore up when i was halfway through, howled to the sky when I finished it and a lump is stuck in my throat while writing this review.
A new string of adjectives will be needed to describe this beautiful story .
It's the most heartfistingly achy-breaky story ever !! Drained of energy is how I feel now and reading common words seem sacrilegious after reading this tender , soulful story.
You can say it will easily climb to the #1 spot of this year . It will scar and stamp upon your heart.
I will never ever be able to forget Jayson and Del , they will stay trapped in my Muscle Memory FOREVER !!

Jon pulled at my heartstrings right from the very beginning when he wakes up from a coma and discovers he has amnesia. The author kept it very real, I totally got Jon's confusion, fear, anxiety, anger, frustration. This was done so damn well.

What I struggled with was the flashbacks, not because I'm usually not a huge fan but because I was given a very in depth look at his life with Delaney prior to his accident, with detailed, prolific drug use. That right there is a hard limit for me, I really don't want to read about drug abuse in my romance novels. Yes, I know it happens out there and am aware of the awful struggles addicts have but in my books ... no, I don't wanna know. This definitely took the polish off what would totally have been a 5 star read, editing issues and all.

Once the story stayed in the now and I got to know the drug free Delaney I really liked her, she was so in love with Jon/Jay and I felt her pain and sorrow, did I ever! I totally 180'd my feelings on her, I love it when an author does that. I also love how the author didn't make it easy for either of them, and that Jon didn't miraculously bump his head again and get his memory back. See, keeping it real. That so worked for me.

Edited 4/9/17 to upgrade my rating to 5 stars because I can't get this book out of my head and any book that stays and niggles at me is deserving of a 5 star rating

I hate memory loss stories. For some reason, I stay away from them like they're the plague. Until awhile ago when I met a real life 50 First Dates couple. The wife loses her memory every 24 hours...no joke. Her husband, just like what Adam Sandler does for Drew Barrymore, plays a video every morning for her to watch. They have four kids and they were high school sweethearts. I asked her husband how in the world does he handle that? He said it's hard, not only does she have to get used to him everyday, but she also has to get used to her kids, but something he said to me took my breath away. He looked me in the eye and said "Even though it's tough, we have good days and bad days, I get to make her fall back in love with me every single day." I'll never forget this couple. It hit me, that stories like these aren't just fictional and Hollywood made. It's real life for some people.

So when I saw that Stylo Fantome wrote a story like this, I immediately one clicked. But I'll admit, it took me some time to read it. I wanted to see my friends reviews first before diving into this one. If that couples story was hard for me to handle then I knew Muscle Memory would be one of those heavy reads. I just had a feeling.

All I can say is this was a phenomenal, emotional read! I can't even begin to describe the array of emotions I dealt with while reading this. Usually it takes a few chapters for me to become invested in the characters, but I was invested in Jay's story after the turning of the very first page.

I was so captivated and devoted to Jay's journey and the outcome that my heart literally started to physically hurt for him.

I'm not easily wowed by much books these days, but I was definitely wowed by this one.

Suffering from amnesia due to head trauma, he awakens in a hospital without any links to his identity except for the clothes on his back and the drugs that were found in his bloodstream. Conveniently called John Doe, he slowly begins to carve out his own rebirth as Jon Doherty but starting over has a disadvantage since he can’t work without real identification. However, it's the second chance he desperately needed.

“It will be scary, but it’s got to be better that whatever I was doing before.”

With the help of a social worker, Jon tries to acclimate to his new world. While he is aware of certain traits or abilities, Jon’s memory remains closed except for the few instances he gets a sensation or a feeling he can't place.

“I was fearless once, she had said. Maybe I can be fearless again.”

While Jon’s story gained local and national news, no one ever recognized him and it’s as if he lived in a bubble. Trying to move forward, Jon forges friendships but feels like he’s only experiencing a lesser or low calorie version of his previous life. Not knowing how to combat those feelings, he pushes them aside until he can no longer ignore his body’s memories.

“She’s my ghost, she haunts me. I don’t remember her, but I know her.”

One night, Jon’s axis shifts again when he recognizes her. Hauntingly familiar with her blue eyes, Delaney Carter instantly reacts to Jon and in that moment his past merges with the present. Seeking answers for so long, it becomes clear that Jon’s previous life was intense and steeped in poor choices, yet the feeling that Delaney is part of his muscle memory is undeniable.

“All he knew was her skin felt like home and that when she breathed, he was the one taking in oxygen.”

What occurs is an interesting turn of events among characters that are trying to do the right thing in the name of love. While not all their choices are perfect, it serves to highlight insecurities and what others will sacrifice. The evolution of Jon’s character really elevated him in my eyes because he acknowledged how lucky he is to have friends that truly care about his well-being. Plus, knowing how reckless he was in the past made his transition all the more enriching.

Told in alternating chapters between the past and present, this arrangement allows for the intensity of each time and adds to the tension of what will be Jon’s future. As for Jon, I appreciated his tenacity and felt his frustration of trying to remember. Delaney certainly proved herself and her selflessness was admirable. A special shout-out to Sloany because she was an amazing character that brought levity and firmness when needed.

Muscle Memory is a story that makes one wonder about the what ifs in life, as in one moment it can all change. It is certainly an interesting plot and the turn of events felt realistic. The pacing is steady and the writing flows effortlessly between dialogue and inner monologue, which seems to be a signature within this author’s style. With the romantic notion of true love, this book also delves into friendship, sacrifice and second chance. I highly recommend!

FIVE EXHILARATING STARS*****

In love we trust. What a beautiful and powerful phrase, and the heart of this entire story.

This is the story of a man who wakes up in the hospital with absolutely no memory of who he is. The only thing he knows is that he just woke up and is recovering from a nearly fatal accident. No name, no family, no identity. He tries every day to remember his past, the only pieces of information he has are based on his clothing, appearance and medical history, and those don't give him much hope. What if he used to be a terrible man, maybe that's why his brain doesn't want to remember?

He's adopted the name of Jon and with the help of his social worker and some kind people from the community he's trying to re-built a new life. He's living his days selflessly, trying to do everything right but he knows something important is missing, his heart remembers something, or someone.

IMG_5813

One day while out in a restaurant he collides with the powerful feeling of a memory. Her eyes, the woman in front of him, he has no clue who she is, but he remembers vividly how she feels, how his body reacts to her, but nothing else.

Delaney lost the love of her life. Theirs was a toxic kind of love, filled with both good and bad things. A love that was more intense than drugs, and so dangerous that it almost killed them both. Now he is in front of her again, after she searched everywhere without success, he's just appeared in her life. And he appears so different and yet in her heart he feels the same.

What would you do if are given a second chance? A clean slate at a new life? Could you forget about everything you left behind? The funny thing is that your mind can forget but, never the heart. The heart always remembers love, is simply Muscle Memory.

What an amazing story! Wow, Wow and Wow. This is the reason why I adore Stylo Fatôme's books, and why she is one of my go-to authors. Because she never disappoints, not only is she a brilliant writer, but her creativity has no bounds. How I wish I could crawl up inside her brain; I bet is a fun, exhilarating and scary place. But is that creativity and innovation that brings us readers powerful and unique stories such as this one. Stories that make your heart raise and they become tattooed to your soul, because you never forget them.

Jay/Jon and Delaney's love story wasn't always pretty, it was also dirty and chaotic at times, but to me it was perfect. Their love was fierce, inexplicably deep. It was everything, always and forever.

READ THIS BOOK! please, I beg you, it is sooooooo good.

"Blue means love ..."

A couple of things had me apprehensive about reading this book:

#1) This is my second Stylo Fantome book and while I enjoyed the first one, I'm always a little hesitant - worried if it will be as good as the first one!

#2) the blurb worried me especially the part about him possibly not remembering the girl he loved and that he might never remember her. This could go good or bad.

#3) I had heard they were addicts and homeless and that always sounds depressing. Wasn't sure if I was willing to take that on.

Let me address these concerns...

#1) Stylo Fantome is fab. I quite enjoyed her writing and will definitely read more from her. If you haven't read her yet, you should give her a try! (This book especially!)

#2) Yes, this part is a bit worrisome but it was interesting to read Jon's journey and it definitely sucks you in.

#3) Hell Yes, this was depressing. My mind always goes to the worse possible scenarios...unfortunately. But...keep reading! ;)

description

So, the story starts off with Jon waking up in the hospital. He knows he's injured but that's about it. Thankfully, he is being well cared for and has a great case worker, Ms. Sloan. He also has a bit of money through the graciousness of well intended donors so he's not exactly destitute.

Ms. Sloan sets him up at a halfway house since no one has come forward claiming Jon. The situation actually works out well for him. He can't get paid for work since he doesn't know his social security number (never thought about that!) so he volunteers at a food kitchen. And that's where he meets Kitty.

Right away, something didn't sit right with me about Kitty. It just takes a while to see what it is. Another factor of homelessness I hadn't thought about. However, he and Kitty do have a relationship and I was actually surprised that he was okay with it since he could very well have someone else.

We do get page time of Jon's life BEFORE he lost his memory and it's bittersweet. It takes a while before we get to the part of when and how he lost his memory and it's really sad.

But...this is when all the angst starts and the FEELS! I just can't imagine! (and that's all I'm going to say about that!) ;)

The ending was flippin' amazing even though it bothered me that Jon left his luggage and everything at the airport! Actually, it drove me crazy...LOL! Luckily, it was for a good cause.

WOW WOW WOW!!!! Just finished this story and I am left with a feeling of what can I possibly read next to cure me from this hangover!! From the first chapter, till the last page…I read non stop… because this story pulls you in and leaves you wanting more, needing more, unable to take a break and come back for more!!! Muscle Memory is just that Fantastic!!!

Jayson and Del are two peas in a pod. They are like peanut butter and jelly. They go together, they fit together, they survive together. Blue means Love>>Pink means Happy

The rest of our lives. Sounds like the best time ever.

They get along perfectly…doesn’t matter if they are drunk, on drugs or just plain old sober…They get each other.

Not only is this book flawlessly written, it is chocked full of an emotional story that has you hanging onto hope till the very last page. So well written that you can not see the writing on the wall, you have to devour each and every page. Stylo Fantome is a very talented Author. It doesn’t matter what her storyline is, she captures her readers with the wonderful words she writes!!!

This is a story of the mind forgetting but the heart remembering . It's a feeling, deep in your gut, that claws its way into your soul making war with the mind. Waking up and remembering nothing.......not your name, not where you are from, nothing that gives you a sense of who you where prior to waking up in a hospital........Amnesia......and it's not kind.

A beautiful story told in present and "before" tense. John Doe wakes up with no memory and this is his story of trying to move forward. With the help of a social worker, Mrs. Sloan, John Doe decides to become Jon Doerhty, a man who must begin a new life until his memory decides to return. With each new step in his life, we also get his life "Before" ....as Jayson Fairbanks. While Mrs. Sloan is Jon's biggest advocate, he meets a gorgeous woman, Kitty, who embedds herself in Jon's empty heart.

This story is heartbreaking, emotional, sweet, angsty, loving......it really tugs at your heart because of that empty feeling that Jon carries around. And when he finally collides with his past......get ready for more emotions to wreck havoc with your soul. Finally having information is a double edge sword. You are told information but your brain has no recollection, no connection except for the messenger. That messenger, Delaney Carter, who is the key to his past, who is also a "feeling" that his heart remembers. If only his heart could relay the "muscle memory" to his brain.

I loved how the story was told. I loved that while I was living Jon's life in the present, I got his life "Before" too. His struggles, his happiness, his loneliness, his forever love with Delaney are all laid out for the reader to absorb. When his present and before collide it's makes your heart palpitate because there are so many complications. It's not easy, there are so many questions, there are many heartbreaking moments as well as gut wrenching moments. Can the present and the before come together? Can the heart reach the mind? Or does the present win out because before is lost to the mind?

This author writes with passion and conviction. This story is raw, tender and just has a beautiful openness too it. Amnesia is frustrating and maddening but the heart is always present to remain true. The characters will get under your skin and make you feel their plight as well their love, their fear, their frustration, their wants and most of all their hope. Their hope against all the odds.....their hope that amnesia won't rob the heart as well as the mind.

Trope I’m not fond of: amnesia.
Trope this book contains: amnesia.

Yes, you may stare at me like that. I deserve it. It’s a bit like me going to the shop, buying myself a bag of carrots and cooking a huge pile to eat. I don’t like carrots. But the cover was so pretty and I didn’t read the blurb…I have no other excuse.

“I have no identity. No social security card, and no possibility of getting a new one, which means no job. I have no name, no birth certificate, no credit score, no references?”

I wouldn’t say Stylo Fantôme has converted me, but never once did I feel the need to DNF Muscle Memory because the story she’s written grabbed me as Jon Doherty tries to come to terms with the life he lost in the blink of an eye and the one he’s found himself dropped into.

“The love of her life doesn't even remember her, and she has to watch him parading around with another woman, and she does it all with a smile.”

It was fairly cut and dried for me when it came to my feelings on the characters, particularly Delaney and Kitty. Kitty, seemed to be a character inserted for readers to dislike and it worked as I found her a weak, one-dimensional potential bunny-boiler who I struggled to feel any empathy for and who overpowered the real relationship in this story—Jon and Delaney’s.

“I don't remember you. I didn't before, and I won't after. But I swear to you, I remember this. I remember us.”

Whilst they weren’t necessarily good for one another before his memory loss, as they get to know one another again under changed circumstances, it was clear where my allegiance lay. But I have to be honest in that Jon and Delaney lacked the emotional punch I was hoping they’d create. There were some truly beautiful moments between them and ones which were penned equally as beautifully, but the narrative style didn’t give me that opportunity to really get into their minds. And if I had, I think that could have been the game changer here.

Overall though, Stylo Fantôme did enough to keep me captive and I’d be interested in reading more for her. I have to be honest though, whilst it’s had no bearing on my rating as that would just be unfair, amnesia is still my literary carrot.

Genre:  Contemporary Romance
Type:  Standalone
POV:  Third Person

teaser 1

Jon Doherty's life has turned out a complete blur.  He wakes up in a hospital with amnesia; after a terrible night he found himself not knowing who he was and what he did in the past. Jon found himself in a totally new life; he decided to make the best out of it by getting a job and making something for himself.

When Jon was finally getting himself in a routine; he meets someone that recognized him and now he is more conflicted than ever.  He was upset that he couldn't remember but more upset at himself  that he was so reckless with his life before his amnesia.

“She’s my ghost, she haunts me. I don’t remember her, but I know her.”

I felt so much for Delaney; finding out that the love of her life didn't remember her.  She thought that believing he was dead was horrible; instead she realized that knowing he will never remember what they had together was worse.

“Why!? Why, god, why, this is almost worse...She curled into the fetal position and sobbed.

Teaser2.jpg

“Her heart was breaking for a man that didn’t exist anymore. For a love that should’ve lasted forever.

This book brought so many emotions in me.  I was so happy, and then sad, then I was crying a river; I loved the hero and the heroine in this story.  All the characters in this story were also likable.  I enjoyed the friendships Jon built with his social service lady it was super cool and I laughed a lot.  This story is about two broken souls that loved with all their hearts and the heart ache that brings when making bad choices.

I loved this story so much; it was refreshing and full of feels.  The author delivers a fantastic story of love, loss and life in general how two people can love each other so much that even after all their mistakes and tragedy they have hope.  This book will be appealing to readers looking for a second change romance.

Wow! Just WOW! Stylo Fantôme's work was already INCREDIBLE, but with Muscle Memory, she took her writing to the NEXT LEVEL! Every single thing about this book screams BESTSELLER - from the characters, to the plot, to the writing, to the unbreakable HOLD this had on me, this author will definitely TURN SOME HEADS with this latest release, I guarantee it!

MUSCLE MEMORY is a unique and heart wrenching love story that had me on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE way through. It's unlike anything I've ever read before and that is INCREDIBLE because of what we see out there today in the romance world. The word that came to mind as I was reading this incredible story, was HOPE. These characters go through so much in such a short amount of time. There is so many ups and downs, so much strife and heartache, but STILL all throughout you can't help but to HOPE.

I think this author did an amazing job developing these characters and taking them through this hard journey. I believe she did an amazing job at painting a vivid picture with her words and making us readers BELIEVE in these characters and their unyielding love for one another. My stomach dropped, my heart ached, and my eyes swelled with every turn of the page. This was more than a journey...it was an emotional experience that I will never forget.

Yes I know I'm incredibly close to this project but in all honesty this book secured a place in my heart forever. It is so goddamn real, honest and emotional and just perfect. Stylo Fantome made me weep at parts. Your reactions will be visceral and at times you will want to reach inside this book to grab and hug these characters.

Stylo did the damn thing and you won't ever be the same. Her talent is immeasurable and we are all the unworthy benefactors of it.

Muscle Memory by Author Stylo Fantôme is a standalone novel.

“We're two parts of a whole, always making up for the other one. We couldn't survive without each other.”

Oh my gosh! I ALWAYS anticipate new novels from this author. This is like a double-edge sword for a reader. The anticipation level at an all-time high, I took a deep breath and tried to dispel the nerve-racking pre-read jitters. After reading the first chapter I had to ask myself the question, "Why?" Why was I so concerned that I may not feel a connection? Why was I scared that I wouldn't get that tingle one feels when they're hooked to words and can't pull their eyes from the page? Because, let me tell you, I took a complete heart-dive into this novel from the first pages and never looked back. What a feeling!

“My brain forgot,” he said. “And my heart wasn't sure. But my soul ... how could I ever forget it belongs to you?”

I craved this novel! Just like one cannot simply have one potato chip and feel appeased, one chapter was not enough. I needed more and more. Constantly in awe of what was developing in the story, apprehension became my close friend and a box of tissues my bedmate.

"I wasn't alone. She was always there. Always looking for me. Caring about me. I was never alone."

I loved how the author switched from past to present, giving us a trail of bread crumbs and personality traits to follow. This definitely played-up Jon's character in a fascinating way. How he saw himself and life then and now. How he viewed intimacy. How he indulged in having fun. I cannot express to you how much I adored Delaney. This woman! She was fearless, long-suffering, brave, compassionate, and kind.

“I don't know her, but she's in my blood and in my bones and in my body. I wake up reaching for her, but can't remember her ever being there. I turn around to look for her, then realize she was never with me. She's my ghost, she haunts me. I don't remember her, but I know her.”

Here's the thing, I knew that even with all of the emotional turmoil in Jon's life, a twist was coming...because it's a Stylo Fantôme book, and that is a staple. Seriously, just after this thought, the bottom fell out. No. Freaking. Way! And then I lost all composure and kept falling and falling and falling. I was reminded that love knows its owner. A great love is never forgotten, and an epic love is ALWAYS one memory away. I felt the longing, the desperation, the confusion. I just wanted for my people to be together and be happy. So, I waded through the words, with tears and laughter as the backdrop, and hoped to surface with some semblance of a smile on my face.

“You were the best time of my whole life. Thank you for that."

I cannot say this journey was easy, but the end rivaled any high that an adrenaline junkie could experience. Muscle Memory was one of the most intoxicating and emotional second chance novels I have read to date. It touched a place so deep in my heart and soul that it will remain there in its own special place.

Leaving is always harder for those left behind, but what if a person we never thought we’d see again suddenly comes back—the same person we once loved and lost—but with not a single memory of us? Would we love them still? Could we watch them find happiness with someone else? When the memory of loving someone vanishes, is it gone for good, or does it remain instilled in us forever? Stylo Fantôme returns with a mind-blowing second chance romance that explores the what-ifs of everlasting love—the story of a man who wakes up in hospital with no recollection of his past life or who he used to be, but as his heart and mind struggle with all he’s forgotten, his soul slowly remembers to whom it belongs. This book shattered me in the best possible way and is quite possibly one of the most moving love stories I’ve ever read.

“I’m glad I forgot us.”

Wow -without question- this is one of THE BEST books we’ve read in this -amnesia second chance romance- theme. It could’ve been full of clichés or over the top drama, but it really wasn’t. It was perfection! It was beautiful. It was heart-breakingly intense. It was incredibly romantic. It showed that no matter your past, you have the ability to change your life, deserving a second stab at it without judgement, sometimes what makes you –YOU– on the surface is not a complete nor true reflection of who you are on the inside. Muscle Memory features a wonderful hero who completely stole our hearts in every which way and a heroine who we admired and fell in love with for her strength and her beautiful soul. We lived and breathed their story alongside them.

“We’re two parts of a whole, always making up for the other one. We couldn’t survive without each other.”

The secondary characters entwined in this journey played a tremendous part creating a story that felt emotionally complete. In all honesty, this story felt new, unique and it was quite simply flawless in its exploration of Jayson and Delaney’s past and present. Whilst the journey this Author took us on had a melancholy and an initial ugly broken dreams feel, it was also hopeful, inspiring and had such depth. It re-affirmed the message that true love has no hidden agendas, rather it endorses the selflessness of love and sacrifice. That second chances of life are possible and the will to make that happen is a reachable goal.

‘If she couldn’t be the love of his life anymore, she would help him love life.’

This story of tragedy, love, re-discovery, healing and acceptance was vividly written without hesitation, whilst shining the light on an intense soulmates romance whose path of self-destruction came to an abrupt climax. What followed was a well-paced journey that had us crying, laughing through tears and clutching our kindles to our chests as we fell in book love.

“I don’t know her, but she’s in my blood and in my bones and in my body. I wake up reaching for her, but can’t remember her ever being there. I turn around to look for her, then realize she was never with me. She’s my ghost, she haunts me. I don’t remember her, but I know her.”

The ultimate gift of love has many nuances and can come in an abundance of guises such as friendship, loyalty, understanding and guidance. This story shows that second chances can make or break, that lives and people can change by either unexpected circumstance or by self- belief or even will power.

Wow! I just had an emotional-filled rollercoaster and memorable journey with Muscle Memory! Stylo Fantome can definitely write and this one just hit me at the right spots I'm stil-l in awe big time!

Bear with me because this review will be short and quick as I have really nothing to say except the book is not easy to read and the situation and scenes was definitely more complex than it already was. I wouldn't even talk about the characters as I feel like each of them with their own roles played in the story, needs to be met on your own. Know that you can connect with them easily. Each have great impacts and each will bring out several emotions in you. But then, do me a big favor will ya? READ THIS BOOK and be the judge of it. It's not your ordinary love story. It's not even your normal cliche amnesia reads and all the in betweens. This book is something out of the ordinary that whether you're a big Stylo fan or not, all you'll gonna say is, hell yes, bring all the pain together with life and love's complexities. I read it at times clutching my kindle basking all the feels and reliving each moment. I love it because it was written with uniquenes that made me feel so hard. Gah! The feels of this book was overwhelming yet I could not help but let it in my system. And I love it wholeheartedly. It's one of the reason why I love this author's writing style. She did not hold on into this one. She brought all the filthy, the gritty and the bad thrown at us without sugar coating it. It was so hard riding this journey but was so honest and raw. I have embraced it and never once did I let go. Instead, I savored and devoured the book like it's my last meal. And hooray! I wasn't just full, I was satiated. It consumed me!

Overall, I will recommend this book to everyone who needed a new story that will either move you or break you but in the end will definitely touch the very core of you. As always, it's incredibly written just like any other Stylo Fantome's works, but this one got heart. A big one at that. I was moved big time and honestly just the mere thought of it made me want to read it over and over again. I cried, I was pained, I was frustrated, I laugh and I fell in love but I don't want it any other way. Just like my blog tweenie said, it's not a good feels kind of book but I tell you it's one of the best.

"...you sometimes have to forget everything before you can understand what true love really is" , it all just made sense. You had me with this one. MUSCLE MEMORY...It's all in the Muscle Memory. What a powerful message perfectly crafted and delivered. This is one of the reasons why second chance love story never grows old and you're one of the reason Stylo Fantome. Excellent job!

5 "It's all in the muscle memory." Stars

Stylo Fantome held me utterly captivated throughout this newly penned, stand alone, romantic journey. Muscle Memory holds true to second chances and rediscovery with characters who make you feel every step of the way. With adult themes and some particularly sketchy situations, Fantome meanders her words on a heart breaking journey. This story is unique, full of surprises, emotionally vulnerable, and honest. It's well worth your investment of time.

As Fantome toggles between past and present we see multi-faceted characters with depth. Each of them, love them or hate them, holds interesting personality quirks and something to recognize for readers. They grow as characters sealing a bond with readers quite fast. There are parts of this story that are hard to read subsequent to choices made that might not be choices I would make but each one led to something else in a series of interconnected events that will leave you held hostage.

The writing here is neither flowery nor overly detailed. Fantome has a very precise way of writing while drawing you into her words. It's concise at the same time engaging. Coupled with the character development and this unique plot, Muscle Memory will leave a lasting impression.

Stylo Fantome's "Muscle Memory" was such an unexpected story that still has me scrambling to gather my thoughts. I read the synopsis and expected one thing and the reality of it was something completely different. This isn't a bad thing mind you because if nothing else, Jon and Delaney made me feel. God did it make me feel, and not always good things. If you're looking for a hearts and flowers, walk in the park on a sunny afternoon kind of read, this really isn't it. If you want a book that will rip so many unexpected emotions from you, then seriously, jump right in and prepare to be glued to the pages as this car crash of a story unravels before your very eyes.
Her heart was breaking for a man that didn't exist anymore. For a love that should have lasted forever.

Was this a love story? Yes it most definitely was but for me, it was a love story of two halves. The before and the after. The before is what I just wasn't expecting and for some reason I found myself getting on my high horse about it. Why I got my knickers in a twist over it, god only knows but I felt like a mother on the side lines wagging my finger saying "nothing good will ever come of this" and "it will only end in tears!!!" Yeah think destructive, dangerous, unhealthy, reckless and careless. Think two people that were so bad for one another yet the love they shared was just so undeniable. Boy did the chapters from the past send my emotions into a tail spin.
"It was crazy. She was yelling, I was yelling, and it was like, snap! I kissed her like i was taking a breath. It felt so... natural."

Then there were the chapters from the present and again, this author was no kinder on my heart or my emotions. In fact I came to the conclusion that she was really going to make me work bloody hard for that HEA, if there was ever going to be one!!!! There were moments I did wonder, the twists and turns making it even harder to work out.

So I guess you're wondering why the 3.5 hearts if it got me feeling so much? I really wish this book had been written in first person. I honestly do feel that it would have added so much in terms of my relationship with the characters and it really would have given their story an edge. I wanted to get inside their hearts and minds and really feel what they were going through but unfortunately, I felt that I was told this more so than anything else. I guess my feelings and emotions stemmed more from the situations the characters found themselves in as well as the twists rather than the impact such events had on the characters emotional well being. But that is just me and I know others that have read this book have absolutely loved it.
Because when true love finds its counterpart, it always recognises it. It's all in the muscle memory.

All in all, I did enjoy "Muscle Memory" and the unusual story line that was delivered but I wish I had felt more connected to the characters. This one gets ❤️❤️❤️.5

I loved the idea of this book. Amnesia always makes for an interesting story and I loved the 3rd person narration going between past and present. Honestly, the writing style was my favorite part of the book. There were however, consistent editing issues, lots of missing words.

What I had issue with were numerous plot holes that just made the story unbelievable. I don’t for a second believe that an injured drug addicted “John Doe” that appears to be homeless would make the news in New York. I find any initial media interest in him to be completely implausible. As well as any Go Fund Me account or any other financial support.

I also find it completely implausible that Delaney couldn’t find Jayson when he supposedly was all over the news and in the papers in New York. Even if she walked into hospitals and police stations in different boroughs of New York, someone had to be familiar with the story. And why couldn’t the paramedics who took them to their respective hospitals been of any help?

But the thing I take the most issue with is the HEA that 2 addicts got in the end by staying together. Of course I wanted an HEA. But I just found it to be too unrealistic. If you know anything about addiction, you know that the likelihood that at least one addict in a relationship will relapse is super high. But when we further analyze that these two addicts had enabled each other, gotten high together, and were hitting rock bottom together, I just don’t buy that they can stay sober. Jayson had been an addict for years. It was his lifestyle. And they weren’t just drinking and smoking pot. They were doing major drugs.

The premise and writing are a 4, the plot holes make it a 2, and the drug use and unbelievable HEA are a 1.

Madre del amor hermoso!!!!

Pero que libro más raro! 😱😱😱

I enjoyed this book immensely. I loved the premise, the past conflicting with the present for a man who remembers nothing even though his heart can't seem to forget. It was beautiful. There were moments that I felt were a bit over-the-top dramatic, some dialogue that didn't feel as natural as it could have. But there were also moments too beautiful for words, bits of dialogue and inner monologue I reread more than once because they completely took my breath away. There were plot details that didn't quite add up for me, but there were also facets of this story so perfectly captivating, I didn't even care that it didn't fit together as perfectly as it could have. This isn't a perfect story, it's not a flawless read. But it is a beautiful one, a hopeful one, a beautifully gritty story of a love that somehow defies everything that should've destroyed it.

Muscle Memory was well paced, perfectly peppered with just the right amount of angst, steam and drama. It took a few chapters before I was fully invested, but once I was in it, I was IN IT. I'm a reader that loves the exquisite pleasure pain that comes with a love story full of heartache and longing and this book is full of both. These characters are imperfect and broken and their path is paved with addiction, loss and difficulty. But this is the perfect demonstration of why we read romance, to be swept away by a story where love conquers all. Even in the most dire situation, under the most impossible circumstances, love wins.

This was my very first Stylo Fantome book and it won't be my last. She's clearly a lovely storyteller and this book is a wholly unforgettable one. While I didn't factor the editing into my rating, I have to be fair and mention the significant number of typos in this book. Typically I'm not tripped up by errant typos, but there were enough in this book that they gave me pause more than once. With that said, Muscle Memory is a story I won't soon forget. It's a story that'll stick with me. When I reflect back on all that Jayson goes through in this book, from where he was before to where he ends up, it's heartbreaking but it's also remarkable... and it's magical. Everything that was so wrong with his life and everything that was exactly right in it come together in a series of fateful moments, virtually destroying him only to put him back together in the most perfectly imperfect way. It's beautiful and messy what this author does in this story and I truly enjoyed it.
