Balance (The Balance Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 29 ratings

From Bestselling Author, Janelle Stalder, comes a new, suspenseful Paranormal Romance.

Early Praise

"This book was a phenomenal start to what I know is going to be an amazing series. It is filled to the brim with mystery, danger, and intrigue, with just the right amount of heart-stopping and breathtaking romance. It made me fall in love head over heels, and then slowly destroyed my heart. If there's one new series you start this year, make sure it's this one." - Kayleigh Gore, K-books Blog

A love written in the stars, or born in the depths of darkness?
Where fate has brought them together, so will it tear them apart.
This is not a story of chance, but one that was destined to come to pass, and with it the fall of the darkest shadow to roam the earth.
Vivian French will soon realize that monsters are not just characters from story books, but creatures who can tear your soul apart and leave nothing in its place.
This is not a love story.
This is a tale, of a fallen angel and The One who will bring about a change in the Balance.

Janelle Stalder was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. She loves her home country, except for the winter, so basically eight months out of the year she is miserable and cold. She has four wonderful children - Aiden, Elora, Violet, and Clara, and has been with her hubby since she was just a wee girl of 17. Writing is her passion and escape. Everyone always asks how she does it with four kids, four animals, a home business, and everything else that comes with all of that, and honestly? She doesn't know. She just does. When you know what you love, you find time to do it. Words and stories; characters and worlds that come to life between pages - they are what make writing fun.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It felt like there were two storylines, an office romance and a supernatural one.

It was probably about halfway through the book that the stories merge and you finally see the bigger picture. From that point on, for me, it was actually much more enjoyable to read.

Vivian meets Caleb during her summer work placement at a law firm. He is the one of the owner's sons and is the most unapproachable and unfriendly of the brothers. Vivian has her sights set on being a prosecutor and doesn't want the complication of relationships. Life has other plans for both of them and they quickly become an item much to the chagrin of others.

I will admit to getting to the end of the book and being stunned by how it "didn't" end but honestly, I took the that in good spirit and had a laugh about how sneaky the author was.... what a hook for the next book!

I received this as an ARC which I voluntarily read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cliff hanger alert!

    I loved this book!
Seeing how Caleb and Vivian met was too cute I love them as a couple 😍
Kellan was totally unexpected, Dermot is clearly a psycho

And Blake! Really Blake is here too! Having already read future books from the series, it's really clouding my judgement here!

Also having read the future books I had a vague idea what was supposed to happen but by God this was not what I was expecting! I did not imagine that in my wildest dreams! That cliff hanger was totally brutal I'm so glad I waiting until I had Poise ready *phew*

Time to get started on Poise now... I need a Hea or at least a HFN

    3.0 out of 5 stars Spoiler Alert it's a 2 parter

I found the premise interesting but some of the dialogue unbelievable and forced. Needs more editing with attention to details. The characters needed to have more concise development and separated voices of their own. I was beginning to be invested in the main characters but then the author pulled a dirty and left the reader hanging with a cliffhanger at the most critical moment which can truly backfire, turning the reader off as it did for me. I was drawn in by the book cover and the intriguing synopsis but was left out in the cold by the authors decision to leave me hanging.

Loved this book! It sucked me in from the very first page to the last. Caleb and Vivian are a love we all dream of. The intensity the passion the chemistry, it’s destiny at play. And that ending! Omg! Definitely worth the read!
