*** This is the first book in the Broken Trilogy and it ends with a cliffhanger. Intended for 18+.***

My name is Savannah Miller. Right after my twenty-seventh birthday, I was taken from everything I’d ever known. I was beaten, starved, treated like an animal. With no sense of time and no dignity left, I finally gave up hope.

Then one night, an elite group of US Army soldiers came to my rescue. I was brought to a safe house and given two stay under their protection and follow their rules or leave and be guaranteed to be returned to the savages within a week.

I chose option one.

With the help of new friends and a potential new love, I fight to get my life back. This is my story…

This was one of those books that I really wanted to love, but just couldn't make myself. I've seen some wonderful reviews for this one. Most of my friends raved about it. Unfortunately, I just never felt a strong connection to the story. In fact, I found much of the book to be kind of "meh".

When I started this book, I thought it was going to be dark and gritty. Told from the perspective of the heroine, Savannah, who has been kidnapped and held for ransom, the story began with a dark, dangerous feel that was promising for a reader like me that thrives on disturbing details. I thought for sure that I was going to love this story right out of the gates.

Unfortunately, the story soon changed drastically from what I had been expecting. Savannah was rescued and placed in a safe house with a bunch of special forces guys. Aside from one notable exception, everyone treats her like a princess.

The story got a little boring for me at that point. Day after uneventful day is described. Aside from a few small memories and a blossoming love interest, there wasn't much going on that held my attention.

As Savannah and Cole began to pursue a romantic relationship, there were a few moments that drew me back in. There was also a pretty surprising twist toward the middle of the story as well. Otherwise, it took on the vibe of a sweet, but uneventful love story for most of the book.

That being said, the last few chapters had my full attention. Several things take place that had me on the edge of my seat. Many questions are answered, while others arise based on the new information we are given. The ending has left me curious to see how things will work out for Savannah and Cole. It was a shocker and I'm dying to see what actually happened.

*****5+++++ "OMG" stars*****

Please, spare me!!!! What was that ending???

I lost my shit in there!!!
OMG!!! I need the next book, immediately!!!
Fuck me!!!! All these facts at the end were true???? Is it possible???

No, no, no!!!! PLease L.J. you have to fix them!!!! Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee....
I'm dying here from the agony!!!!

Okay, guys!!! This book was fan-freakin-ntastic!!!!

It was just... perfect!!!!
The characters????? Amazing!!!
All of them, but my favorite was Cole and Savannah!!!!
That story was unique and very strong... I got lost inside it!!!
My emotions was many and they were spinning all the time inside of me... Like a tornado!!!!

I felt sadness, agony, pity... I have even some flashes of joy and happiness!!!

Savannah was kidnapping for very long time... She 's been through a lot since the day they got her....
She took many humiliacions, violence and pain!!! Until one day she was deciding that it didn't worth the fight... no more!!!

She can not trust anyone anymore...

But one day, she 'd been rescued by Blackstone team and they take her with them in their safe house...
Suddenly feels vibrations of kindness but she's very broken to trust them!!! As the time is passing, she's wondering who was behind her kidnapping and why!!!
Her mind going crazy...

She doesn't know who to trust anymore!!! She was held in this tiny dirty room for seven months and neither killed her nor asked big ammount of money for exchange!!!
So what is hiding behind their actions????

In the safe house they've given her a choice...
She can stay there under their protection or she can go back in her old life but noone can assure her that the Cartels won't take her back!!!

So Savannah choose to stay with them and from that moment, something change slowly inside her...
As the time pass and as she begun to know all the people around her, she's starting to earn back her trust to people, but most of all, she's trusting Cole Logan, the chief of this team...

Between them formed a unique bond... They both started to feel for first time feelings that they didn't know that they could...
But the threatens are still around them and they have to watch all the time behind their backs...
They will manage to earn the happiness they seek and to win this "war"????

What can i say about Cole, ugh???? I think i'm in love with him!!!

He is so strong, so protective, so deadly but at the same time soooo... kind!!!! From the first moment that he lay his eyes on Savannah his stable world trembles...
He can't think anything else than her and protection...
He used to be so combosed and professional, but now Savannah is his first priority!!!

And what can i say about Savi??? She is also a very strong person... She 's been through a lot, but she fought back and managed to survive all this cruelty!!!
She and Cole together was like two pieces af a puzzle that fit so perfect together...

I don't want to live out Cole's parents, Abigail and all the Blackstone team... Mark, Keith and all the other guys... They were all unique, kind and... awesome!!!

I only want to say that i hated York from the first moment!!!

And not only him as been proven at the end!!! Oh, God!!! You awful people you have to been shot between your eyes!!!! Yeah, you!!! You know who i mean!!!

Finally, i have to say that the end was so cruel for my heart and it left me hugging around... shattered!!!

Shit!!! I need something good, please!!!!

Holy hell. What an AMAZING read!! It had the right amount of darkness, romance, and action that left me totally unable to put it down!

It also had a cliffhanger that literally destroyed me.

I need the next book ASAP !

When you think of a dark, gritty, intense novels, you think of Captive in the Dark, Tears of Tess and Consequences. These are just some to name a few. Broken started out that way but quickly lost steam and momentum after the rescue. However notice I marked it as a liked read. The author has a strong voice, she did an amazing job building up the characters and storyline. But for me personally lost interest with the romance and love fest. It lost creditability. A victim who endures kidnapping, torture and the threat of rape for nearly a year isn't going to be open to therapy, romance etcetera after fourteen days. Sorry Charlie its just not plausible. With that being said I wasn't going to commit to reading the sequel. What changed my mind was the cliffhanger ending. Now I'm intrigued.

In the beginning my heart broke from what Savannah has been going through. As the story started to develop, new characters started to bloom and author did a great job, presenting them to us. Savannah and Cole start to have feelings for each other and as the pace increases, a lot of twists and intense scenes take place as well. This book is intense and played with my heart. At the end, there is an aching cliffhanger that had me asking for more.. This book was recommended to me by my friend NiCoLeTA. Damn you girl!! I liked it so much…

This book is like making a shake with yummolicious ice cream and soured milk.

Props

I was hooked to find out the who's, why, how's, and get a look at the completed plot puzzle of her kidnapping.

I loved the environment of the safe house with hottie soldiers, Aunt B, and June and Ward Cleaver parents.

The romance was fair to swoony at various times.

No other women. Female MC isn't interested in anyone but MMC.

The cliffy ending was killer, or not;)

Could've Been Better

The initial chapters were not as emo connecting as they could've been. It was enough to make me interested, but not enough to make me feel her plight, pain, and hopelessness. She's kidnapped, starved, beat, afraid, and mentally degraded... I felt like I was reading an unknown person's diary account of someone else being abused vs seeing it from and through the eyes of the victim.

The aftermath of this abuse once she's rescued is also a little off. It's high angst points paired with too quick, too easy resolve. <<< Readers can deal with one of those but all three hitting the same point is much harder for readers to buy. The therapist and sessions wasn't done well.

Internal bad guy is too stupid, too blatantly obvious. I mean dude wasn't trying to hide his dislike AT ALL.

No, Just No

Speed! Omg if this book were alive, it would be a slug. Much of this book is just day-today-to-day BS. Some of it is kinda fun - paintball & boxing for example. But, the cooking, shopping, walking etc are just boringly slow fluff. Speed this shit up and cut the fat!

Entirely too much boo-hoo crying and mope-woe is me.

He's never had a relationship because he is married to his career. So, he falls in love with a chick that begs him not to go do said job and cries every time he has to leave?!? Hum, okay, that's 1) endearing 2) oh so believable. Not!

She's held for seven months and NEVER sexually assaulted? Happy for her virtue and all, but that's just not believable AT all!

Her dad hates her embarrassing him in the media with shit like ... she trips and the tabs write that she's an addict and she leans over to get a purse and her dress rides up her ass. TWO incidences and they aren't like OMG she's crashed with coke in her purse or some 'ooooh shit' moment. No, it's shit I'd never even read in a tab. She does her best to not even go out unless it's work. So, she's not a Kardashian, LLOHAN type situation. Yet, I'm supposed to buy the info in the closing chapters? Ehh, no!

The why here to the kidnapping isn't exactly believable. I hope with more info in book two, this plot line will flesh out with some believable circumstances.

How many people can be obsessed with one chick? JA~

A bad ass drug cartel person that plays by rules? <<< That character was unbelievable on every level.

Bottom Line

I'm curious as to where this will go. But, the unbelievable shit, the boredom, and the crying nearly killed me.

I'm moving on to book two, but the author doesn't have much rope left to keep me interested.

I'd recommend trying it, especially if you have Kindle Unlimited. You'll get an accurate feel for the flow and temperament of the book by 20-25%.

Amazing book!!!!

The story starts right away and in a shocking way in my opinion. The plot is full of surprises and I was constantly on edge! Until the last chapters in honesty couldn't guess what was going to happen. The double POV is very well written and needed.

The characters are really solid. Savannah is amazing and she goes through hell. She actually lives every single of my nightmares. I really like her.

Cole is fantastic. He is strong and reliable, but he is also human! It's really nice to read about someone with real worries, concerns and responsibilities!

The scenes between them are really good! There are no games and it's nice to be so straight forward.

The rest characters are necessary for the plot and they have a clear place in the book.

The end of the book is the most horrible cliffhanger that I could possibly imagine. I am just happy that I have the second book and I can start reading it right away. I definitely recommend this book to everyone!

I love dark reads—especially those with a kidnapping trope—and having only skimmed the blurb, that was pretty much all I knew going in: the heroine gets kidnapped. From there, the suspense grabs you and doesn’t let go until the very end. So be sure to plan your time better than I did because you’ll want to start book two right away!

This one another 'mehhh' story for me. It had potential but I just didn't connect with it. I realize I am in the minority here but I didn't really enjoy the writing style; it was very choppy but also filled with run on sentences. And the amount of grammatical errors was almost distracting. Which is pretty sad b/c the characters themselves were likeable. The cliff hanger ending was pretty insane, but not sure if it's enough to read the second.

OMG. This book was so freaking good, I couldn't put it down. I will try to review with out any spoilers because I hate them. From the minute I read the blurb, I knew it was a book I had to read and I was not disappointed. The very first page grabbed my attention and kept it through out the entire book.

"Deceit
Deception
Dishonest
Distortion
Fiction
Myth
Tale
Fib
...anyway you say it, it means the same thing…lies."

This book is like no other book I've read, which made me love it even more. It had me feeling all types of emotions.

At first my heart broke for Savannah and what she went through. She was so broken in the beginning of the book you just prayed she would heal herself or someone else would come along and help her heal. Savannah faced a lot of trauma that not too many people would be able to cope with. She is a strong, vibrant and feisty woman, who you just can't help but root for.

Then I was excited to meet our hero Cole. He is sexy, serious and a workaholic. As a colonel and leader of the Shadow group, he never has time for love and has never let anyone in until he saves Savannah. Cole and Savi are so great together it's like they were made for each other. I couldn't help but fall in love right along with them. There definitely was some romantic and swoon worthy moments.

“It’s like someone got inside my head, found my deepest desire and created you.”

Not only are the two main characters great and well written, so are the secondary characters. I love Abigail, Mark and Keith. They are all lovable and added some great humor to the book. I loved the way Savannah interacted and bonded with majority of the secondary characters. I would totally read a book about Mark if J.L. writes it.

Lastly, the ending split my heart in two and cursing J.L. for doing this to me. It was heart wrenching and had me at the edge of my seat screaming "NNNNNNOOOOOO". This girl, did shed some big ugly fat tears. Even with this ending I still loved everything about this book and can't wait for Shattered to come out in May. I give Broken 5 stars and 100% recommend it.

*****5 COPY THAT STARS*****

"Sometimes it only takes one look to fall in love."

When I heard that J.L. Drake had written a trilogy I knew I had to get my hands on it. Let me tell you she did not disappoint. My biggest regret with reading this book was that LIFE got involved during my reading time and I had to put it down on several occasions. Once I wasn't so busy, I devoured this book, I stayed up late last night to finish and today my butt is dragging but I couldn't be happier. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's full of suspense, plot twists and turns. This book has everything I look for in a story.

There were so many characters in this book I actually started to get confused. With that being said I absolutely adored ALL of them, well except for YORK, and a few others whom I have a few choice words for! Cole Logan- I want to have your babies. Savannah- I just LOVE HER! She couldn't have been more perfect for Cole. Cole seems to walk around with a stick in his butt at times and only Savannah has the ability to pull it out. She is feisty, strong and resilient. There were so many scenes I actually laughed out loud at. Yes, a book that makes me giggle, is full of action, drama, and suspense perfect right? My favorite scenes were the paintball game, the snowball fight, and of course the action in the shower! I can't say more because I don't want to spoil any of the story or give too much away.

This book ends in the MOTHER of all CLIFFHANGERS!! I am dying to know what happens next, and need the 2nd book Shattered like yesterday. All I want now is an over-sized army green t-shirt with LOGAN on the back, so I can cuddle up with the Colonel! So excuse me now while I go rock in my chair and bite my fingernails trying to wrap my brain around that ENDING!!

Five Fun-fucking-static Rating for this baby!!!

When Jodi asked me if I want to read the trilogy she was writing, I was so happy.
I couldnt believe She trusted me enough to send me a copy of Her pet project.
All she said was, it wasnt finished yet and it would end with a cliffhanger.
So i dropped what Im reading and jump on it right away.

Im so happy that J.L Drake has given the break that she deserved.
Now the world will have the chance to know how great story teller she is.
She will make you fall in love not just with the Characters but the Story itself.

This story took me on a rollercoaster ride.
It was Nail-biting-edge-of-your-seat-mind-f***ked story.
From start to ending,
It kept me guessing to what will happened next.
I was so scared for Savannah.
Got so excited for the love that had developed between Savi and Cole.
Fell in love with the boys, Ugh... The boys... *sigh*
Jodi warned me that it was a cliffhanger ending, but boy!! I wasnt ready for that
Kind of ending. It blew my mind to the roof. It left me on book hangover for days.

Do yourself a favor and get this one and the next 2 books.
You will not regret it. It so worth every penny you will spend.

Note: Jodi, thank you for intruducing my book husband to me. Lol

Kitapta ABD özel kuvvetlerinin Gölgeler'inin başındaki Cole Logan ise yürekleri hoplatan bir adam. Ama nesiyle? Elbette dışındaki sert kabuğunu kaldırdığınızda içinin yumuşacık bir keke benzemesiyle. ☺️

description

description

Is it possible to die from holding your breath while reading a book? Because I'm pretty sure my ghost is writing this review.

Savannah Miller. Cole Logan. HOT DAMN!!!!!!

This story will blow your mind to epic proportions.
You will find yourself slapping a table (like I did a few times) because of the shit that goes down here!!
Be ready to go on an insane emotional rollercoaster.

Be warned:
1. You may need to have an EMT on standby outside your door, especially after you finish this book.
2. You will find yourself profusely sweating, with dry mouth because the plot is so freaking AH-MAZING.
3. Your stomach will do somersaults like it's seeking a medal in the Olympics
4. Your brain just might explode out of your skull.
5. Your heart may just sigh and make plans to give up.

I've been saving this trilogy for a while, because I had a feeling it would be a winner, and I wanted to be able to binge-read all three at the same time. I am so glad I did!
Savannah Miller is the perfect protagonist. She was raised the daughter of a politician, and she hates the media and the limelight. She has trouble trusting people, but not to the point where it becomes an annoying character trait. She's extremely tough, and throughout this book she gets herself into trouble more than once with her big mouth. That said, she still has a soft side, and she's a relatably vulnerable person.
Logan is a bad-ass male love interest, and while he's tough and can (and does!) kill people with his bare hands, he reveals a softer side to Savannah. He was a refreshing love interest, since he's tough, but has absolutely none of that toxic masculinity garbage. He isn't afraid to show that he loves Scoot, the house's pet cat, and he's the perfect son to his parents, Sue and Daniel. He's also fiercely loyal to his team and everyone who is living in the house, and this shines through in all his actions throughout the novel.
The plot itself has quite a few intense twists and turns, and I was captivated by this story from cover to cover.
This book ends on a huge, stressful cliffhanger, so I don't recommend reading it unless you have time to immediately start reading the second in the series!

Dnf 300.

"I look in the mirror, and my heart leaps. There I am, the old Savannah, hair cut long to the middle of her back, loose curls halfway up, natural highlights peeking through. I reach up, running my fingers through what feels like silk. If only I felt like the old Savannah on the inside."

My MC Romance addiction led me to the author and her Devil's Reach series. It blew me away, I devoured it and loved every page. After learning that one of the characters in that story was featured in the Broken Trilogy I couldn't wait to get my hands on it as well. Now that I've finished reading the first installment, Broken, I've determined that is a perfect title. Broken is extremely accurate and what Savannah suffers is heartbreaking.

There are so many amazing characters in this story, along with some black-hearted assholes that deserve everything they have coming to them. I won't be content with leaving it to Karma to handle, I want to be a virtual witness to their demise to give me relief from the inner aggression I feel towards them. Yeah, I not only have book boyfriends, I have book therapy sessions venting my rage through the character's actions.

Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to hang on to my feelings for a while longer as this is a trilogy. I have so many emotions running through me as I envision how things might eventually turn out. I'm devastated at the loss that has already occurred and hopeful for the future as I do some mental matchmaking. I'm worried about 'the boys' as I've come to think of the elite group of US Army soldiers that rescued Savannah. They are extremely badass, but also sweet and funny at times as well. Their protective nature is endearing and I envy the lucky ladies that eventually win their hearts. I'd love to stay and chat, but I'm anxious to move on to the next story in this series. The line forms here...

Oh my heart, my emotions! This book. To quote Mark...

"Holy fucking shit!"

There are a lot of characters in play in this book, and at times, I did have to look back to see who a certain character was, but each and every one of them are there for a reason, they have a purpose, so even though there were "a lot", there weren't "too many".

A side note, I found it amusing that the character names were almost biblical. Mark, John, Paul, Mike (Michael)... and Luka is pretty close to Luke.

This book is full of lies and deceit, twists and turns, darkness and light, and love. I loved every turn of the page. I couldn't put this book down, even woke up at 4 in the morning thinking about it, so I got a cup of coffee and curled up to read! Yes, it's that good and that engaging!

Ms. Drake is a recently new author to me, having read the first 2 books in her Darkness Series , and while waiting for the third book in that series to come out I decided to read this series. Could an author hit a home run for me with more than one series? Oh yeah!

Savannah Miller and Cole Logan. They left me Broken by the end of this book.

Warning, this book has a MAJOR cliffhanger, so have book 2, locked and loaded!

“Broken” is a story that’s full of intrigue, suspense, action, and romance. I absolutely loved Cole and all his men. They all exuded traits of an alpha-male without going over-the-top. A good story that was well-written with an array of characters. The one thing that didn’t work for me was the female protagonist, Savannah. It was hard to remember she was a 28 year-old woman as for most of the novel I found her to be quite immature. The fact that she kept antagonizing York was just ridiculous. I really wish I could pinpoint what it is about her that rubbed me the wrong way. As for Cole, I had a hard time trying to figure out what he found so attractive about her. As for the reason behind Savannah’s capture, it was quite clear how that was going to be played out, which it did. The ending I have to say was cheesy. Let me interrupt by mentioning that this is a trilogy, which means book one ended with a cliff-hanger, one I thought was a little overdramatic. I can already see how it’s going to play out. Even the whole thing with Cole at the end was so obvious. No matter. At the end of the day, I still look forward to the next book in the “Broken” trilogy, “Shattered.”
