I See...Love (A Different Road Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 57 ratings

One family of five... One life-altering tragedy... Three survivors. Each of the Mason siblings takes the outcome of the devastation three completely different ways.

When you are born, you’re born a blank canvas. Over time, sadness and heartbreak leave deep scars. Loss and sorrow carve irreparable cracks into that canvas. Love is like paint, it colors your heart and fills in every scar, every wound that life has left behind.

River Mason has never led an easy life. He and his younger sister were involved in a horrific car accident that tragically took the lives of both of their parents. Sadly, losing his parents wasn’t the only thing he lost that day; with that came bitterness and anger toward himself, the world, and everyone in it.

His number one rule: Never let anyone in…

He’s determined to keep his heart closed to the possibility of love because that would be weakness and for River weakness is never allowed.

Joss Meyer is perfectly happy in her existence. She and her best friend, Nina, have been each other’s constant since the fifth grade, sharing every experience of their lives. After opening their own personal chef business together, the last thing on Joss’ mind is a man. She stays focused on her career, and her carefree life.

But life doesn’t always go as planned….

When Joss meets River, he turns her world upside down. She finds herself willing to sacrifice her heart to be with a man who only promises to hurt her in the end.
Sometimes the road less traveled is a chance worth taking….

Is it better to end up hurt, than to never have loved in the first place?

The decision is black and white, but how you feel isn’t.

Can one truly see…love?

I loved reading from both sides in this book. I really enjoyed learning about River, and how he coped when the accident caused him to become blind. He just didn't see himself worthy. Thankfully Joss comes along, and breaks down his walls. And shows him how worthy of love he really is. Beautiful story

I See... Love is a really good book.
Joss has set up a business with her friend Nina where they cook for people or supply them with ingredients with step by step pictures.
They cook food for River Mason who is a constant critic of Nina so Joss takes over. We find out that Nina had been sleeping with River's assistant Josh and they broke up, and Nina can't deal with it. Joss and River seem to clash but its a fiery relationship. River lost his sight at the age of 10 whilst in a car accident with his parents and younger sister Kate. River unfortunately lost his parents in the accident and he and his sister has never recovered. He's got an older brother who blames himself and its interesting reading their history and how they deal with grief.
I must admit, I've downloaded the next book in the series and can't wait to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Does Crow Taste Like?
Reviewed in the United States on 18 September 2015
I have had this book for two weeks now. I laid it on the floor so I could glance down at it and pout...yes pout. I have been in a snit and have been irritated with Annalisa ever since she ripped the "Wellington" clan and crew out from under me. I've even taken to not posting to her as often as we had been. A full on granny pout. OK...so what exactly does crow taste like? I've not had it before but it is going to be on my menu as soon as this review is finished. I guess Annalisa could grant a last reprieve but she really shouldn't based on my behavior. OK now that is out of the way. That was tough.
First, I seriously believe that Annalisa's writing has gotten even better with this new series. It has a richness to it and a depth that, although present in most of the previous series, is on full stage on every page. Each word is completely necessary in this story...nothing has been wasted. I LOVED this book...not liked LOVED this book. I was fully prepared to slam the heck out of this book if I had to but I can't because I can't slam perfection. With this new book we know that each member who will be participating is damaged in some way. This is new for Ms. Nicole. The intensity of River tore at my heart and I will remember this character for a long time. Note to Annalisa: I expect to hear a lot of tidbits about this couple in the coming books in this series. Pretty please. Joss was the perfect person to drop into the life of this broken man. Holy Cow. The chemistry between the two was written as if Annalisa knows these folks and was writing a book about them. It was real, emotionally raw, gritty, had moments of humor and truth be told it had everything. The group of secondary characters who are just waiting in the wings seem as rich and I WANT and NEED to know about them as soon as possible so I hope you are writing your buns off Annalisa. I just can't say enough about this book. I was emotionally spent by the end and I went searching for more pages. All I can say is that Annalisa Nicole has reached new heights with her newest entry into the land of books. Brava honey and job well done. With heartfelt thanks for this wonderful read. P.S. thank you for yours posts to me telling me to trust you. I bow to your talent. You should be very proud of this magical piece. With love, denise bailey

    4.0 out of 5 stars i see... a GREAT story! : )

Love love love Joss & River (and Nina & Josh, and Kate)!!! This is a fabulously written cast of characters! : ) My heart broke for River & the way he was forced to grow up. His siblings, too. I just wanted to hug the daylights outta all three of them. And Joss, she is a strong, motivated, awesome heroine! She doesn't take anyone's crap, she doesn't pull any punches, and she doesn't let any dust settle. She takes charge, confronts those who need confronting right at the time anything happens... just very well done.

The only downside, and what kept this in the 4.5 stars rather than 5++ for me, were the fact that Joss & River don't get a lot of "in the same space" time for the first part of the story, and the SOB (seemingly obligatory break up) - the way it came about. After everything was said & done, that just didn't jive for me. BUT!! The wrap up was FABULOUS! *bounce* And I LOVE when River & Joss do get to be in the same space. Those scenes sparkle.

Looking forward to the next story, which will be Kate's. This is definitely looking like another favorite series for me from this wonderful author! : )

I really enjoyed this story, and was very much entertained. The story line was original, unique, something I haven't ever read before. I loved all the characters. They had chemistry, humor, and were all very likable.
Annalisa really surprised me in a good way. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story

Joss is a personal chef that has recently started her catering business with her best friend, Nina. One of their biggest clients happens to be River Mason, a millionaire running his family’s business.

Joss is happy and guarded. River is hard and unrelenting. I enjoyed the way they meet as an assumption by Joss causes some funny moments.

I liked the angst that was caused by their reluctance to let go of the control they each wanted to hold over every aspect of their lives. River and Joss want to be together, yet they have scars that prevent them from allowing themselves to feel. The story was well written and the secondary characters also add some hilarity and depth to the story.
