Sticks (Black Addiction Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 280 ratings

Kenzie Clark had made plenty of mistakes. Who cared? Life was all about the journey, and if you couldn’t enjoy the ride then what was the point. The tough-talking guitarist from Brooklyn, NY worked hard so she could play even harder. But some mistakes weren’t so easy to walk away from. Joey Shaw, drummer for Black Addiction, was exactly that kind of a mistake.

How could one night of fun turn into a life long commitment? That’s exactly what Joey was asking himself when Kenzie showed up a few weeks later—the soon-to-be baby bump with his name written all over it. He could barely tie his shoes; how in the hell was he going to raise a kid?

With neither of them ready to become parents, it was always going to be a difficult, but there was no way either of them were walking away. Come hell or high water, they were having this baby—together.

Hopefully they would both be still standing by the birth.

T Gephart is a USA Today and International bestselling author from Melbourne, Australia.

With an approach to life that is somewhat unconventional, she prefers to fly by the seat of her pants rather than adhere to some rigid roadmap. Her lack of "plan" has resulted in a rather interesting and eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history. She'd tell you all about it, but the statute of limitations hasn't expired yet. But all those crazy twists and turns have led her to a career she loves—writing romantic comedy.

When she isn't filling pages with sassy and sexy characters with attitude, she's living her own reality show in the 'burbs of Melbourne with her American husband, two teenage children, and her fur child—Woodley.

She loves adventure, to laugh, travel, and strives to live her life to the fullest.

There is a very fine line between both need and want and while both Joey and Kenzie think they know what they want in life and it is not each other, what they are going to have to come to terms with is the fact that they now need to be part of each other’s lives …but in what capacity?
In inimitable T Gephart style, this is a story of not really knowing what you are capable of until you have no choice.
She has the capacity to draw the strongest of emotions from not only her characters but also her readers and I say that because, by writing characters that are such strong individuals she doesn’t mollycoddle the reader, she makes you take a long hard look at the circumstances and love or hate those involved you have no option but to take it at face value, but could two such strong solo acts ever come together and last…well I had my doubts.
Joey, oh man, I had my head in my hands, he was such a pain in the butt at times but in the next breath he sucked the air from my lungs. The guy really didn’t do anything by halves but getting Kenzie pregnant that wasn’t anywhere on his to do list anytime soon. Shame his nether regions didn’t get that memo because now the pair of them are on the path to parenthood and it is precarious to say the least.
Joey (aka as Sticks) is the heart of the band, the guy that beats out the rhythm that Black Addition march along to, his drums are his life as are the other guys but what if the most self-indulgent man-w**re suddenly has another heartbeat to listen out for?
I didn’t know if he had it in him to not only accept but to flourish in the situation that he and Kenzie found themselves and while it wasn’t a walk in the park, I will say that I stand corrected, kudos to him, he gave me a whole new perspective on who he really was and what Kenzie really meant to him.
She was his muse, sort of, the one that got away and while he would have normally gone with the flow and accepted it with no regrets, now she is back in his life it is almost as if the gods had a bigger plan for him and she was his reward.
He was so sure of himself with everything up until the point he finds out he is going to be a father and then, oh boy how the wind is taken from his sails. But given time to get his head around the situation, we were eventually handed a new improved Joey, I loved his attitude even more, he grew into his own skin, into the person he was destined to be and into the role that while he hadn’t planned it, it was one he could completely own.
He was on this earth to be some little human’s dad and that made me smile from, ear to ear.
I was slower to accept Kenzie in some respects, she was just a little harder to get a handle on, she was a feisty woman alright but initially that didn’t make her completely likable. I thought she was a little harsh at times and condescending towards Joey when there was no need. But I totally admired the fact that keeping her baby, with or without Joey was her decision, she didn’t need to have a man in her life to make her decisions, and she lived by that rule, although when she finally accepted that she wanted Joey to be in her life I couldn’t contain the smile that was plastered on my face. I do have to say that one thing I liked almost right from the onset was her humour, she was a funny lady, and she dished out attitude like kids dish out candy
I saw what Joey had seen in her and I understood the attraction between them but in a way I thought he was ever so slightly naive, and I can hear you yelling at the page, no he bl**dy wasn’t but what I mean is that he had a childlike quality about him, Just remember the paternity test debarkle…I rest my case!
There is more going on in the heads of this pair than you will ever have considered possible but when they lay their hearts on the line, they do it together.
But this author doesn’t do anything by halves, because with the band heading off on tour, I should have known that there was going to be a sting in the tail, they had things almost smooth and then the rug was pulled from beneath my happy ending!

Kenzie is pregnant after a one night stand with Joey, and furious. Since she wants to have the baby she needs to let Joey know he is going to be a Dad. She doesn't expect much from him because although sweet natured he has never shown interest in anything but being a drummer and laying as many girls as are happy to offer, no strings attached.
It turns out Joey is adorable and although not famous for thinking before speaking or acting he means well and is determined to do right by Kenzie and his baby. His internal monologues are laugh out loud funny.

This book for me definitely deserved 5 stars, really well written and had me laughing a lot. Loved the chemistry between Joey and kenzie, so glad they worked thing a out. Would love a Joey in my life, larger than life, handsome rocker who isn't afraid to show his feelings.

Can't wait to read more from T Gephart.

This book is the making of Joey Shaw !!!
Sticks is the story of Joey and Kenzie, Joey's life as a single rock star is about to turned upside down with the news that a one night stand is pregnant with his baby !!! Joey has always been the joker of the band, he takes nothing seriously and as the blurb says he can hardly tie his shoe laces so how is he going to look away a baby ? Even though we do see some really funny scenes I'm glad to say we see a more rounded Joey, a Joey who is capable of taking responsibility for himself and his new family.
I'm not going to lie, I pride myself on my honest reviews, at times I did struggle with this book I'm not sure what it was if it was my mood or the book but something was off while reading this book, as I've LOVED everything Tina has ever written I'm going with it was me ! At times some books just don't work for you and this didn't work for me.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It was fun, sexy and made you realise people can be what you need despite how they appear on the outside. Joey is the goofball he is fun, sexy but not to be taken too seriously. But Joey and Kenzie are put in a situation where it shows the true person underneath all the bravao. Fun monologues from Kenzie made this exciting to read, talking about the scare factor of bringing life into the world. I do love rock star romances but not as many are as fun and romantic as this. It was good to read a rock star story that was fun, but also had some more areas deep and meaningful than just being a goofball like Joey.

This is the second book in this series, it's about Kenzie and Joey. I really liked this book, this is my favorite so far. Joey was a little ditzy at times and often acted before thinking, where Kenzie planned everything and analysed a lot. I loved Joey's craziness and how even though he didn't seem like the protective alpha-ish type he really was. Kenzie sometimes thought too much into things and that could be a little frustrating. It was awesome to see the rest of the band (and a little added surprise from another band). I can't wait for Max's book, and i really hope Kenzies brother gets a book, i think he'd be an interesting character to explore.

My first T.Gephart book and def. not my last.
Joey and Kenzie stole a piece of my heart right from the start. These two are just the sweetest ♡ I love their friendship and how they just fell into this beautiful relationship.
I've read on a review that Joey is special and I so get it now – he is absolutely heartwarmingly adorable.

There was captivating charm about him, and despite being incredibly cocky, he was surprisingly honest. What you saw was what you got, unfiltered.(Kenzie)

„I would have given up j***ing off just to kiss you tonight.“ awww, Joey... ;)

He and Kenzie are perfect together and I can easily forgive her for wavering a little in her faith in Joey because she came around pretty soon, stopped listening to others and listened to her own heart.

This book made me smile sooo many times, the epilogue the perfect ending, loved it

5.0 out of 5 stars Love my Gephart Rock Stars!
Reviewed in the United States on 3 March 2016
I absolutely loved this! This is the 2nd book in the Black Addiction Series. If you haven't read these dive into Power Station Books first. This is a spin off series of that one. No one...I repeat no one...can write a hot sexy rock star like Ms Gephart. I actually have read quite a few rock star books and frankly don't have the patience. They are usually stereotypical with your drug induced, man whore "hero" and I can't stand it. This author gives us bad boy rock stars who worship their women without hesitation. They just want to love their women, have fun with their friends, and play kick ass music.

In this installment we have our hot as hell drummer Joey squaring off with our kick ass lady guitarist Kenzie. Kenzie is in a girl group Beauty Queens and might I say maybe their could be a spin off series again there because fellow band mate Sarah would be freakin hilarious! Joey and Kenz are friends who have a hot hook up then a couple months later...whoops here comes a rocker baby. Joey was so adorable and completely hilarious! I was literally laughing so hard tears were streaming down my face. Here is this tough as hell rock star calling Kenzie every five minutes with a question about pregnancy. And the first Dr visit they go to? OMG! I was like "no he's not, please tell me he's not going there." LOL But he was so cute trying to super helpful even they he had no clue of what he was doing.

This was such a fantastic, super funny, super sexy read. As always Ms Gephart does not disappoint. The woman delivers every single time. Now I am so excited to see what's next because Max's story will no doubt be epic!

Joey! His sweet, carefree, good time personality was really appealing. I laughed so many times throughout - which was exactly what I needed! Quite refreshing in a couple of ways actually - the couple dynamics and so humour over the angst. Loved this second instalment in Black Addictions journey.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, Hilarious, and Oh-So Hard to Put Down!
Reviewed in the United States on 29 February 2016
It's impossible to pick a favorite among T. Gephart's always-entertaining bunch but I gotta say, Joey had me bad when I met him in book one of the Black Addiction series. He was a hot, cocky drummer who says the most outrageous things. Sticks was definitely a refreshingly fun read that I couldn't put down even if I tried.

Kenzie simply didn't do the clingy one-night-stand thing most girls do. So when she found out that she was carrying Little Shaw inside her, she wanted to keep it cool. But keeping it cool with a man as hot as Joey Shaw was definitely going to be a challenge. Kenzie is the epitome of the kind of women I love to read about. She was fierce, confident, and independent. I loved how tough she could get but how sweet and vulnerable she allows herself to be when she was with Joey.

Joey Shaw might not always know the right things to say but he sure as hell knew being a part of his baby's life was the right thing to do. It felt right, too. Joey was a constant source of entertainment in this series. His ridiculous thoughts and ideas kept me up and laughing (sometimes at inappropriate places), forgetting the time and place where I was reading. But other than being the not-so-bright drummer of Black Addiction and the renowned manwhore that he is, Joey was genuine and sweet. And damn, nothing is sexier than a man who knows responsibility.

Joey and Kenzie's tandem lit a thousand kinds of sparks in this book. Yes, they were hot together, but what I really looked forward to were the times when they just talked and did parent stuffs together. I loved the easy and light spark of their chemistry, and reveled on the simmering heat they shared. Overall, this book was a light, entertaining read. The plot showed a lot of potential but the depth of the conflict, for me, was a little less than I expected. Nevertheless, this book just constantly had me hooked and satisfied.
